Custom Data Encryption & Secure File Exchange System for a Legal Document Management Company

Overview

Built a custom encryption and secure file exchange system for a legal document management company handling highly sensitive case files on behalf of law firm clients. The system encrypts documents both at rest and in transit, with granular, time-limited access links replacing the practice of emailing sensitive documents as plain attachments. Every file access and download is logged, giving the company's law firm clients an audit trail they could point to if a document's handling was ever questioned. We built the system to integrate with the company's existing document management workflow rather than requiring staff to learn an entirely new tool for day-to-day work. A legal document management company was emailing sensitive case files as plain attachments on behalf of law firm clients, a real liability exposure for both the company and the firms it served. We built a custom encryption and secure file exchange system encrypting documents at rest and in transit, replacing email attachments with granular, time-limited access links, logging every file access and download for an audit trail law firm clients could point to. We built the system to integrate with the company's existing document management workflow rather than requiring staff to learn an entirely new tool, mapping every existing file-handling step first. It launched with one law firm client's documents as a pilot before expanding to the full client base. The practice of sensitive case documents being emailed as unencrypted attachments is eliminated, closing a real liability exposure for both the company and its law firm clients.
